Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for scientific instrument platforms during new product development and sustaining engineering.
  • Develop firmware for instrument control, data acquisition, motion control, communications, and hardware interfaces.
  • Design reliable, maintainable, and scalable firmware architectures for embedded control systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up, hardware integration, and system debugging.
  • Collaborate with software engineers during system debugging.
  • Support embedded software development for mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, chromatography, spectroscopy, and other analytical instruments.
  • Participate in firmware and hardware verification, validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to firmware best practices, code reviews, technical documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on firmware development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 8+ years of firmware development experience, especially with scientific instruments or medical devices.
  • Experience programming MCU platforms, including ARM Cortex-M/A.
  • Strong C programming skills and knowledge of firmware architecture and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, USB, and Ethernet communication protocols.
  • Experience with FPGA interaction, high-speed data acquisition, and instrument communication.
  • Experience using JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and software debuggers.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for resolving complex system-level issues.
  • Effective communication within cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Preferred experience with scientific or analytical instrumentation, motion control, motor control, precision automation, complete NPI projects, product launches, sustaining engineering, product enhancement, Python, C#, AI-assisted programming, mentoring, or leading technical firmware projects.
