Base Salary

$163k - $214k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Provide architectural direction and technical leadership for real-time control systems across hardware and firmware teams.
  • Design ARM SoC system controllers, user-space drivers, libraries, and reusable frameworks for quantum system control.
  • Develop high-performance production software in C/C++ and Rust while establishing coding standards and engineering best practices.
  • Implement control algorithms, including robust control loops with reliable error handling for precision instruments.
  • Lead board testing and hardware bring-up strategies in collaboration with hardware engineers.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical coaching.
  • Improve development processes, tooling, infrastructure, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Represent the team as its primary technical voice in cross-functional reviews and strategic planning.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science with 8–12 years of experience, or a PhD with 8+ years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated mastery of complex embedded system architecture and designing software systems from the ground up.
  • Deep understanding of hardware-software interfaces including TCP, UART, and MMAP, as well as low-level systems programming.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using profilers, debuggers, and simulation tools.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for explaining complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Comfort working in a laboratory setting.
  • Must meet stated U.S. export-control eligibility requirements, including qualifying U.S. Person status.
  • Preferred: extensive production Rust experience, including async runtimes, concurrency patterns, and performance optimization.
  • Preferred: embedded Linux and strong C/C++ systems programming experience.
  • Preferred: expert knowledge of PID, state-space controllers, and adaptive control algorithms.
  • Preferred: experience with fixed-point algorithms, digital signal processing, and digital filter design.
  • Preferred: experience with SoC/FPGA devices and Linux kernel/device-driver development.
  • Preferred: Python proficiency for scientific libraries and developer-tool creation.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, and voltmeters.
  • Preferred: familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for hardware and firmware.
