Backend Senior Software Engineer (Control Plane & Orchestration)

Responsibilities
- Design and build the control plane API for range orchestration, scenario management, service creation, persona registration, topology updates, and state queries.
- Own the event-driven orchestration layer coordinating multi-step operations across network, services, identity, and storage subsystems.
- Build and maintain persistent storage primitives across file, object, and container storage.
- Own Kubernetes operators or controllers, lifecycle management, upgrade and rollout strategies, and integrations with new ranges.
- Define the platform state model, authority boundaries, recovery behavior, and convergence after disruptions.
- Collaborate on in-range proxy agent architecture, deployment, connectivity management, and control-plane handoffs.
- Partner with SRE on runbooks, incident response procedures, and production observability.
- Contribute to configuration management, secrets handling, and control-plane security.
Requirements
- Strong bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish across written, virtual, and in-person interactions.
- Experience building event-driven or message-driven systems and evaluating coordination tradeoffs.
- Strong Kubernetes expertise, including writing operators or controllers, managing custom resources, and reasoning about multi-tenant workload isolation.
- Experience designing and operating file, object, block, or container storage systems and selecting appropriate abstractions.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and GitOps-based deployment workflows.
- Experience with air-gapped or on-premises Kubernetes deployments is preferred.
- Strong API design instincts and experience building reliable platform APIs.
- Solid distributed-systems fundamentals, including consistency, failure modes, and convergence.
- Operational rigor, including instrumentation, runbooks, and proactive failure-mode analysis.
