Responsibilities
- Design and implement search retrieval algorithms across multiple search engines.
- Improve the efficiency and performance of existing algorithms.
- Write technical design documents and participate in design and code reviews.
- Own the efficiency and accuracy of designs through the development and implementation lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and international cross-functional teams.
- Test and monitor systems and code to promote operational excellence.
- Provide occasional production support, including periodic on-call pager duties.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of search techniques, including information retrieval, and data structures.
- Practical experience making algorithms perform efficiently in implementation.
- Ability to write sophisticated, highly performant, and reliable solutions.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, experimentation, and critical-thinking skills.
- Fluency in English and the ability to communicate clearly.
- Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, or Rust.
- Proficiency with monitoring instrumentation, operational diagnostics, customer-issue resolution, and continuous product improvement.
- Experience with maps, routing, or navigation is preferred but not required.
- Experience with NLP, machine learning, or generative AI is preferred but not required.
- Experience with search engines such as ElasticSearch, Solr, or Lucene is preferred but not required.
- Experience solving challenging search problems is preferred but not required.
- Experience with big data at scale, data mining, and data science is preferred but not required.
