Base Salary
$189k - $265k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the technical vision and multi-quarter direction for Root’s AI platform.
- Lead cross-team initiatives across AI Platform, product engineering, data, security, and infrastructure.
- Design shared services and operating models for reliable, secure, observable, and maintainable AI systems.
- Establish standards and feedback loops for monitoring, governing, and improving AI-enabled systems.
- Make technical tradeoffs involving reliability, security, observability, cost, and long-term maintainability.
- Drive implementation decisions, anticipate platform constraints, and shape technical roadmaps.
- Develop engineers and technical leaders through architecture, mentorship, and systems judgment.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- 3+ years of experience leading software teams or major technical initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and deliver results across multiple teams or a meaningful engineering domain.
- Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, Terraform, secure software delivery, and production operations.
- Strong systems-design judgment across reliability, observability, security, cost, and maintainability.
- Experience guiding AI/LLM platform or application architecture and evaluating novel technical approaches responsibly.
- Ability to resolve ambiguity, drive cross-team decisions, and communicate complex topics to senior leaders.
- Track record of shaping technical roadmaps, unlocking long-term value, and developing engineers beyond an immediate team.
- Excellent collaboration and influence skills with engineering and cross-functional leaders.
