Responsibilities
- Lead the modeling, adaptation, and engineering optimization of on-device LLMs, adapters, and sub-models.
- Own training recipe formulation, data curation, architecture tuning, metric evaluation, error analysis, and on-device runtime optimization.
- Build agentic capabilities, reasoning, task completion, multi-turn workflows, and function/tool-calling capabilities in compact models.
- Design domain-specific datasets, synthetic data generation pipelines, automated evaluation harnesses, and systematic root-cause failure analysis.
- Collaborate with Foundation Model and Product teams to scale Siri and Apple Intelligence across languages and domains.
- Deliver production-grade machine learning systems under strict compute, memory, latency, context, and product deadline constraints.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on industry experience building, training, and shipping production-grade deep learning and NLP systems at scale.
- Proven experience training and fine-tuning large language models using methods such as SFT, DPO/RLHF, and PEFT/LoRA.
- Strong understanding of model behavior, loss dynamics, and scaling laws.
- Exceptional Python coding skills and proficiency with modern deep learning frameworks and tools.
- Experience designing domain-specific datasets, synthetic data generation pipelines, automated evaluation harnesses, and systematic failure analysis.
- Strong ownership, cross-functional communication, and project management skills.
- Preferred: experience with edge-AI constraints and deployment pipelines, including CoreML, ONNX, TensorRT-LLM, Apple Neural Engine, or Metal optimization.
- Preferred: experience building agentic workflows, multi-turn reasoning, and function/tool-calling capabilities in compact or dense models.
- Preferred: publications at NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, or EMNLP, or a demonstrated history of shipping industry-leading generative AI products.
- Preferred: familiarity with high-performance C++ or Swift runtime integration.
