Responsibilities

  • Contribute actively to the TURING project and lead performance evaluation and use-case validation tasks.
  • Design, train, optimize, and deploy transformer-based deep learning architectures using particle-physics detector data.
  • Develop a robust prototype capable of generalizing across multiple detector use cases.
  • Investigate self-supervised learning and multi-task learning methods for foundation models.
  • Strengthen collaboration with the CERN experimental physics community on foundation models for High Energy Physics.

Requirements

  • PhD in Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, or a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • PhD applicants must have no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • Proven experience developing, training, and deploying deep learning models in production environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with neural network architectures, large-scale data processing, model optimization, and performance evaluation.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, PyTorch and/or TensorFlow, machine learning algorithms, NumPy, Pandas, GPU-based training, Git, Docker, and MLOps tools.
  • Professional background in Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, and eligibility as a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and commitment to learn French.
  • Applicants must not previously have held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
