Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain features for the cloud appliance and network security product stack.
- Understand product functionality across in-field appliances, cloud services, customer use cases, and the broader Qualys security platform.
- Design, develop, and deliver new features within the existing appliance architecture.
- Study standards, RFCs, protocol specifications, network topologies, networking fundamentals, Linux, virtualization, and deep packet inspection concepts.
- Debug product issues reported by QA teams and customers and recommend solutions.
- Collaborate with QA on feature descriptions, functional and performance testing, and negative test scenarios.
- Document designs and test plans and collaborate with engineering and QA team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor-level degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or Instrumentation.
- 5 to 10 years of software development or testing experience in cybersecurity or networking systems.
- Ability to write and understand C/C++ and/or Python code.
- Understanding of embedded systems, networking, Linux and Windows operating systems, and network security products.
- Professional experience with kernel or networking product development is advantageous, including deep packet inspection, packet parsing, kernel programming, control and data paths, kernel bypass, fast packet processing, firewalls, socket programming, virtualization, and hypervisors.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, networking protocols, packet captures, Linux boot loaders, GRUB, kernel compilation, and networking stack internals.
- Knowledge of one or more of LDAP, DHCP, ARP, DNS, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, high availability, VPN, and VLAN technologies.
- Working knowledge of virtual machine deployment with VMware.
- Understanding of database concepts and working knowledge of Oracle, PL/SQL, or PostgreSQL.
- Good debugging, analytical, communication, reading, comprehension, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
