Responsibilities
- Design and develop electronic firmware and specifications for power tools, including brushless DC motor controls, Li-Ion battery management systems, and battery chargers.
- Implement and validate electronic designs through software development, testing, simulation, unit tests, and integration tests.
- Develop software verification and validation procedures.
- Provide technical leadership toward cost, performance, and quality objectives for electronic systems, components, and sub-assemblies.
- Resolve electronic system-related issues as part of a larger engineering team.
- Translate customer requirements into software specifications and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Travel as needed to interface with overseas electronic contract manufacturers and provide technical direction for quality electronics assemblies.
- Manage multiple unrelated objectives concurrently and contribute to cross-functional teamwork.
Requirements
- A BSEE, BSCS, BSCE, or equivalent four-year degree from an accredited computer or electrical engineering college.
- At least 3 years of experience developing embedded software for consumer and/or industrial products.
- Experience developing embedded software in C for 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit microcontrollers.
- Understanding of microcontroller peripherals including timers, GPIO, watchdog, ADC, UART, and DMA.
- Strong understanding of real-time processing, process scheduling, cooperative multitasking, interrupt processing, race conditions, and RTOS.
- Experience with debugging using an in-circuit debugger or other methods.
- Understanding of software development processes and controls, including static analysis, distributed version control, unit testing, and bug tracking.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, integrity, ability to manage concurrent objectives, and ability to develop and promote innovative ideas.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with ARM architectures, assembly language coding, closed-loop control and feedback systems, lithium-ion battery-powered systems, and sensored or sensorless trapezoidal motor control.
