Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and maintain firmware and flight software for spacecraft subsystems and avionics.
  • Implement flight hardware features and algorithms in RTOS, bare-metal, and resource-constrained environments.
  • Develop communication interfaces using UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, or similar technologies.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up, driver development, and hardware/software debugging.
  • Contribute to software architecture, code reviews, continuous integration, unit testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and simulation-based verification.
  • Support system integration, environmental testing, pre-flight validation, troubleshooting, and resolution of performance, memory, timing, and reliability issues.
  • Produce system documentation including interface control documents, design artifacts, test reports, and operational procedures.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 4 to 9 years of professional experience in embedded systems, firmware, or flight software development.
  • Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, processors, or SoCs used in aerospace or industrial applications.
  • Hands-on experience with RTOS, firmware development, low-level programming, hardware bring-up, JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and embedded toolchains.
  • Proficiency with C and C++, version control, build systems, and continuous integration pipelines.
  • Understanding of real-time constraints, deterministic execution, and safe, reliable embedded design principles.
  • Experience with SPI, I2C, and UART peripherals and software development in Linux environments.
  • Experience with VxWorks is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.
