Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain production backend services and APIs in Python and Go for data-platform and AI-platform services.
- Build RAG pipelines and tool-calling AI agents with retrieval, orchestration, grounding, citations, evaluation, streaming, prompt caching, and structured outputs.
- Develop and maintain dbt services, Airflow/MWAA orchestration, platform CLI tools, and shared utilities for data teams.
- Maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform, including ECS Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and IAM.
- Implement OAuth/OIDC authentication, token handling, secrets management, least-privilege access, multi-tenant isolation, and per-user RBAC.
- Own reliability and delivery through GitHub Actions, container builds, logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and cost controls.
- Set technical direction through system and API design, code review, and mentoring.
Requirements
- 15+ years designing, building, and maintaining production backend services at scale.
- Expert-level Python, Go, or Java experience with server-side frameworks and WSGI/ASGI concepts.
- Strong service and API design experience, including REST or gRPC, streaming, pagination, versioning, idempotency, and backward-compatible contracts.
- Experience with SQL, data modeling, query optimization, transactions, relational and warehouse systems, Snowflake, and NoSQL/key-value stores such as DynamoDB.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, concurrency and asynchronous programming, scalability, resilience, retries, partial failure, and performance trade-offs.
- Experience with AWS production services, Terraform infrastructure as code, CI/CD, container builds, testing, Git, and code review workflows.
- Production experience building LLM applications, including RAG, embeddings, vector and hybrid search, reranking, agents, tool use, structured outputs, evaluations, guardrails, and observability.
- Experience implementing OAuth/OIDC, authentication and authorization, token handling, IAM, secrets management, prompt-injection defenses, PII handling, and per-user identity controls.
- Preferred experience with dbt, Airflow/MWAA, MCP, applied RAG, Slack conversational platforms, Monte Carlo, Iceberg, lakehouse architectures, BI integrations, model adaptation, semantic caching, or model routing.

- The role is based in the United States, with compensation varying by location; the listed annual base salary ranges are $197,300-$313,700 generally and $237,700-$344,700 in select San Francisco and New York metropolitan-area cities.
