Responsibilities
- Develop and improve behavior-planning, motion-planning, trajectory-generation, and vehicle-control algorithms.
- Investigate unexpected driving behavior using vehicle logs, simulation, and code analysis.
- Design meaningful experiments with clear baselines, comparisons, scenarios, and performance metrics.
- Maintain reproducible experiment scripts and records of code, configurations, datasets, observations, and uncertainties.
- Analyze failures, counterexamples, regressions, and performance trade-offs to improve algorithms and create targeted regression tests.
- Participate in design and code reviews and collaborate with Simulation and Validation engineers to assess performance.
Requirements
- Recent graduate or engineer with approximately 0–3 years of relevant experience; prior autonomous-driving industry experience is not required.
- Strong experimental habits, including hypothesis formation, baseline design, critical interpretation of results, and transparent reporting of negative results and limitations.
- Strong programming fundamentals and hands-on experience with C++ and Python for implementing, debugging, and testing algorithms.
- A solid foundation in at least one of motion planning, decision-making, optimization, robotics, or feedback control.
- Experience completing a substantive technical project involving both implementation and evaluation; research, internships, robotics competitions, and academic or personal projects are acceptable.
- Clear communication of technical reasoning, including the ability to distinguish observations from assumptions and explain solution strengths and limitations.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with closed-loop simulation, physical robots, vehicle-based experiments, vehicle dynamics, system identification, planning-control interactions, decision-making under uncertainty, dynamic environments, or interactions with other road users.
About Bot Auto
Bot Auto develops and operates Level 4 autonomous trucks, selling freight capacity as Transportation-as-a-Service to shippers rather than licensing technology. The Houston-based, privately held company (founded 2023) owns the trucks and runs end-to-end operations, pairing fleet operators with autonomy engineers to deploy long-haul routes. Its platform spans autonomy software, vehicle controls, sensors, compute, and fleet operations with a documented safety case for commercial freight service.
