Responsibilities
- Design and build API gateway, authentication, authorization, key rotation, and multi-tenant isolation services.
- Develop and optimize backend systems and APIs primarily using Python and FastAPI or comparable frameworks.
- Implement usage metering, billing integration, rate limiting, proxying, and routing for AI inference endpoints.
- Build scalable, fault-tolerant microservices and integrate with AI model-serving systems.
- Design telemetry and observability using logging, tracing, metrics, monitoring, and alerting.
- Drive architecture, data modeling, performance, reliability, scalability, security, compliance, testing, code review, CI/CD, and deployment standards.
- Collaborate with AI infrastructure, data engineering, and cross-functional teams on system interoperability.
- Mentor junior engineers, lead technical discussions, and improve engineering practices and culture.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating backend systems in production at meaningful scale.
- Strong Python proficiency plus experience with at least one systems-oriented language such as Go, Rust, Java, or C++.
- Experience designing and maintaining production APIs, including REST, gRPC, WebSockets, SSE, and webhooks.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, consistency, fault tolerance, concurrency, performance, networking, data pipelines, and optimization.
- Experience designing authentication and authorization systems using OAuth2, JWT, API keys, RBAC, or ABAC.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker; Kubernetes; database design; ORMs; and large-scale data modeling.
- Fluent written and spoken English with the ability to collaborate in international teams.
- Preferred experience includes high-throughput or low-latency systems, generative AI or large language models, vector databases, DevOps, infrastructure as code, GitOps, observability tools, ML serving infrastructure, stress testing, and performance evaluation.
- Ability to contribute to frontend code when needed and demonstrate strong problem-solving, code-quality, performance, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.
