Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and operate reliable, performant production ML systems for Attain’s financial products.
- Develop pipelines, feature infrastructure, model-serving systems, and automation for predictive models across decisioning, fraud, churn, and transaction intelligence.
- Own production model lifecycle capabilities including deployment, monitoring, CI/CD, automated retraining, versioning, reproducibility, and progressive rollouts.
- Build infrastructure and pipeline code deployed through Terraform and CI/CD into GCP and Kubernetes environments.
- Create monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and metrics to detect model drift and performance degradation.
- Partner with data scientists, platform engineers, analysts, product managers, and business stakeholders to enable fast and safe model iteration.
- Use AI coding agents to write, test, ship, operate, and debug ML infrastructure while verifying their output.
- Identify opportunities to replace manual ML workflows with durable automation and improve product velocity.
Requirements
- 5+ years of direct experience building and operating production ML systems as a Machine Learning Engineer, ML Platform Engineer, MLOps Engineer, Applied Scientist, or similar.
- Strong expertise in production model deployment, serving, monitoring, feature engineering, training-serving parity, retraining, and model diagnostics.
- Experience building low-latency online model serving, including gRPC or similar services and ideally a service mesh such as Istio.
- Hands-on experience with MLOps pipelines, containerization, orchestration, infrastructure as code, and workflow schedulers, including Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Airflow.
- Experience with model versioning, reproducibility, and shadow, canary, or champion-challenger rollouts.
- Strong Python skills and the ability to build production pipelines, services, and tooling from scratch; Go or Rust experience is a plus.
- Experience with distributed computing and GPU-accelerated workloads, including Spark, Ray, Dask, or distributed training and inference.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with cloud data warehouses and operational databases such as BigQuery and Spanner.
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms, with GCP preferred.
- Experience applying ML infrastructure to credit decisioning, risk modeling, fraud, churn, or consumer behavior use cases is valued.
- Familiarity with model explainability, auditability, and compliance considerations for regulated decisioning is a plus.
- Experience directing AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Cursor, with sound judgment about verifying their work.
- A STEM or related quantitative degree is strongly preferred, including Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or Operations Research.
- Strong engineering judgment, critical thinking, communication skills, and willingness to work across engineering, infrastructure, and ML execution.
