Responsibilities

  • Design and build the core typed, versioned scoring engine as a deterministic computation graph.
  • Model formula trees, categorical mappings, peer selection, and comparability adjustments as versioned declarative data structures.
  • Own lineage, versioning, immutable execution records, and end-to-end auditability so scores can be reproduced in the future.
  • Build typed services, API contracts, and internal methodology workbench tools for downstream applications.
  • Establish golden file testing, property-based testing, regression validation, and other quality practices to prevent calculation drift.
  • Shape architecture, balance execution speed and cost, set code review standards, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in expression trees and dependency graphs, including ASTs, DAGs, cycle detection, topological sorting, memoization, and selective recomputation.
  • Mastery of modern Python with strict typing using tools such as mypy or pyright, along with disciplined testing and packaging practices.
  • Proven experience building auditable and reproducible systems with immutable execution records, versioned schemas, and explicit data lineage.
  • Experience modeling business logic as versioned data through typed schemas, expression trees, rules engines, or domain-specific configurations.
  • Experience designing, versioning, and operating production backend APIs and schemas.
  • Five or more years of backend software engineering experience building computation engines, rules platforms, or complex data-intensive backend systems, including sustained ownership of a core system through build, launch, and iteration.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability, structured working style, attention to detail, and fluency in English.
  • Experience with FastAPI or similar asynchronous frameworks, Dagster, Prefect, Airflow, performance profiling, columnar data warehouses, or AWS is preferred.
  • Healthcare or benchmarking domain experience and German language skills are advantageous.

Benefits

  • Work from abroad for up to 30 calendar days per year.
  • Hybrid work and flex-time.
  • International team and social events.
