Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly team goals while leading engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
- Identify and lead solutions for project, process, technology, and business issues.
- Support operations and availability through metrics, escalation, keep-the-lights-on work, and on-call efforts.
- Develop and maintain capacity models that translate traffic forecasts into resource outputs and recommended capacity settings.
- Set and improve code review and design standards, communicate practices through writing and tech talks, and develop team talent through feedback and guidance.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
- Experience developing highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience supporting the scaling of large sales events such as Prime Day or Black Friday Cyber Monday.
- Experience tuning autoscaling, CPU and memory usage, and multithreading for compute workloads.
- Ability to define technical plans and design significant features or system components with simple, extensible designs.
- Proficiency making significant changes in large codebases and developing tools and practices for safe delivery.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to ownership and continuous growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
