Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the Java layer of an internal developer platform, including shared libraries, service templates, runtime standards, and quality tooling.
- Design and architect scalable solutions that integrate AI capabilities with Java-based systems and frameworks.
- Use GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform to deliver platform capabilities.
- Optimize application performance, monitor system health, and implement observability practices.
- Apply JUnit, Mockito, and contract testing to support test engineering and quality standards.
- Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and establish best practices for AI-assisted development workflows.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and scientific teams to translate complex needs into practical solutions.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Maven or Gradle.
- Experience with shared libraries, service templates, internal platform thinking, and AI-assisted engineering with rigorous evaluation.
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, JUnit, Mockito, and contract testing.
- Experience with documentation-as-code and agent-consumable interfaces.
- Proven expertise designing and architecting scalable distributed systems.
- Strong background in application performance optimization and observability practices.
- Experience conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, and establishing best practices.
- Strong communication skills, ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, and fluent written and spoken English.
- Bonus experience in agriculture, life sciences, scientific computing, regulated enterprise environments, platforms serving multiple internal teams, or distributed international engineering organizations.
