Staff Software Engineer, Finance Automation

Responsibilities
- Architect, code, and operate high-performance distributed backend services using Kotlin and AWS.
- Transform Finance-built AI and agentic prototypes into scalable, monitored, permissioned production microservices with audit trails and automated error handling.
- Build end-to-end internal tools, including backend APIs, data pipelines, lightweight UI surfaces, and operator portals.
- Design resilient integrations across billing platforms, ERP systems, Salesforce, data warehouses, and internal Toast services.
- Engineer for SOX scope, PCI boundaries, data access requirements, and other enterprise controls in partnership with Security, Compliance, and Audit.
- Own technical strategy, build sequencing, architectural trade-offs, and clean handoffs to core Toast platforms.
Requirements
- Staff-level or senior-level lead experience with deep expertise in distributed backend systems and the ability to ship lightweight frontend interfaces or admin portals.
- Advanced hands-on Kotlin or strong JVM-equivalent experience building services on AWS.
- Practical experience productionizing LLM frameworks and agentic architectures, including tool use, retrieval/RAG, evaluations, and context management.
- Extensive experience with enterprise integration frameworks, message brokers, and distributed data stores such as Apache Camel, Apache Pulsar, DynamoDB, and Dropwizard or equivalents.
- Advanced data engineering experience covering SQL, warehouse modeling, pipeline design, and relational and NoSQL data consistency.
- Strong technical strategy, judgment, and technical writing skills for communicating architectural trade-offs to executive stakeholders.
- Preferred experience in fintech, revenue systems, automated reconciliation, SOX/PCI environments, internal platforms, administrative dashboards, operator tooling, or finance and business operations.
