Responsibilities
- Design and maintain test plans covering functional correctness, stability, performance, and security for Ubuntu Linux kernels.
- Build and evolve automated test infrastructure across multiple kernel versions and architectures.
- Maintain long-lived test suites for concurrently supported kernel versions.
- Develop and maintain pipelines for continuous kernel quality validation.
- Conduct performance benchmarking and regression detection across kernel releases.
- Measure and improve kernel code coverage and create tests to address coverage gaps.
- Execute and analyze stress tests for CPU scheduling, memory management, I/O, networking, and filesystem workloads.
- Develop and maintain fuzzing harnesses using syzkaller, Trinity, or custom fuzzers.
- Collaborate with kernel engineers and distributed teams to catch regressions and validate fixes.
- Contribute to upstream test suites and frameworks, and document testing methodologies, results, and coverage gaps.
Requirements
- Significant programming experience in Python.
- Experience with test frameworks such as LTP, kselftest, xfstests, stress-ng, fio, or similar.
- Experience designing and executing functional, stress, performance, or regression tests at the system level.
- Familiarity with Jenkins, GitHub CI, or similar systems.
- Experience maintaining test suites over long periods across evolving software versions.
- Familiarity with Linux, preferably Ubuntu or Debian, and Linux kernel internals and subsystems.
- Experience with Linux systems administration and automation.
- Solid background with git.
- Additional valued experience includes kernel fuzzing, code coverage instrumentation, tracing and observability, static analysis, fault injection, large-scale test infrastructure, Ubuntu or Debian packaging, Snap, virtualization, containers, cloud infrastructure, and open source testing communities.
- Professional written and spoken English, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel twice a year for company events.
