Responsibilities
- Guide stakeholder partnerships to determine user requirements within and across teams.
- Guide teams in identifying dependencies and developing design documents for products, applications, services, or platforms.
- Optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance, maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment.
- Guide multiple groups’ project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with stakeholders.
- Act as a technical expert and Designated Responsible Individual, monitor other engineers across product lines, and participate in on-call monitoring.
- Provide technical direction, drive alignment across teams, mentor engineers, and lead complex initiatives from design through production delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Coding experience in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.
- Preferred: master’s degree and 8+ years of technical engineering experience, or bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated technical leadership across teams, including setting technical direction, driving alignment, mentoring engineers, and leading complex initiatives.
- Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems, cloud services, databases, or data-intensive platforms.
- Experience leading architecture, dependency management, implementation, validation, deployment, and production operations across multiple engineering teams.
- Ability to reason about performance, scalability, availability, consistency, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.
- Experience delivering production software with strong security, privacy, testing, observability, and operational-quality practices.
- Ability to use AI-assisted engineering tools while independently validating correctness, reliability, security, and engineering quality.
