Responsibilities
- Maintain, harden, and extend the Content Filtering Service client across SonicWall firewall control-plane and data-plane firmware.
- Own binary UDP protocol implementation between firewalls and CFS rating servers across protocol versions.
- Develop and maintain complete IPv4 and IPv6 support across all code paths.
- Own atomic, failure-safe firmware upgrade and migration paths for supported version transitions.
- Improve inter-blade cache synchronization reliability on multi-blade appliances.
- Collaborate with server-side teams on coordinated protocol changes.
- Document concurrency models, upgrade invariants, and dataplane integration.
- Collaborate asynchronously with US-based and India-based teams.
Requirements
- Expert-level C programming, including manual memory management, pointer arithmetic, and systems design; C++ is not required.
- Experience with multi-core concurrency in C, including reader-writer locks, spinlocks, atomic operations, and memory ordering.
- Deep kernel-level networking knowledge, including firewall dataplane packet processing, TCP/UDP processing, flow caches, and connection tracking.
- Strong IPv4 and IPv6 knowledge across all code paths.
- Experience navigating and owning large C codebases with multiple subsystems.
- Experience with network testing and debugging tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, traffic generators, and GDB.
- Good written English for remote, asynchronous collaboration.
- At least 8 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 6 years with a master's degree, 3 years with a PhD, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Preferred experience with multi-blade or multi-ASIC hardware platforms such as Octeon or CVMX.
- Preferred understanding of symmetric encryption, including AES-CBC and DES, at the C implementation level.
- Preferred experience with security appliances, network devices, or UTM firmware codebases.
- Preferred familiarity with TLV binary protocol design and versioning.
- Preferred experience with C fuzz testing or sanitizers such as AFL, AddressSanitizer, and ThreadSanitizer.
