Responsibilities
- Design and develop infotainment applications for Rivian and Volkswagen Group Android-based operating systems.
- Create modular, scalable, reusable software for multiple products and use cases.
- Review designs and merge requests across collaborating teams.
- Collaborate with infotainment, vehicle services, connectivity, cloud, mobile, privacy, product security, product, design, and integration teams.
- Challenge requirements, designs, implementation approaches, and release decisions while communicating tradeoffs and alternatives.
- Write unit, integration, and Android UI test code; build regression coverage and diagnose failures.
- Identify application bottlenecks and implement performance optimizations.
- Continue professional development through learning, workshops, conferences, and talks.
- Use modern AI tools for investigation, implementation, testing, and code review while independently validating their output.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Android application development.
- Proficiency in Java and Kotlin; exposure to Python or other scripting languages is a plus.
- Experience building Android applications with core Android APIs; familiarity with Jetpack components is preferred.
- Knowledge of Android lifecycle, reactive and asynchronous programming, dependency injection, persistence, and testable architecture.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and influence decisions across disciplines using evidence and tradeoff analysis.
- Preferred experience with Android performance and testing frameworks, Jetpack Compose, existing Android Views, on-vehicle technology, Espresso, Compose Testing, Roborazzi, Maestro, Trailblaze, reusable fixtures, test abstractions, reusable application frameworks, SDKs, shared libraries, architecture migrations, Android build tooling, CI, test automation, and verified use of modern AI development tools.
