Base Salary
$183k - $206k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement solutions for Honeycomb’s query and data storage infrastructure.
- Improve query performance, evolve the Retriever service, and make the storage layer more reliable and scalable.
- Break down complex storage and querying projects, manage trade-offs, and deliver work independently from design through production support.
- Collaborate with Product Management and engineering teams to connect technical solutions to product needs.
- Participate in on-call rotations, define team KPIs and SLOs, and proactively reduce operational toil.
- Diagnose and resolve difficult production issues and restore system reliability.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
- Drive foundational technical work and adoption of technologies that benefit engineering across the company.
Requirements
- Expertise writing Go and experience working on high-throughput or complex systems.
- Technical leadership designing patterns and guidelines that improve storage and querying performance and reliability.
- Ability to scope and deliver complex, multi-team projects while balancing production realities and business impact.
- Deep debugging expertise across the stack and experience supporting services in production.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, give and receive feedback, and mentor engineers.
- Database engineering experience is a plus.
- Comfort with Kubernetes is a plus.
