Base Salary
$115k - $235k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead development and architecture of owned distributed-system components, defining scalability, throughput, availability, and durability requirements.
- Design fault-tolerant services with in-service updates, consistency and availability trade-offs, load shedding, throttling, and rate limiting.
- Define operational metrics and telemetry, performance and failure-scenario tests, and operational readiness practices.
- Support incident-response rotations and root-cause investigations while developing infrastructure automation and safe update and rollback plans.
- Implement security controls, remediation, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate moderately complex initiatives, mentor engineers, improve cross-team practices, and contribute to candidate interviews and hiring recommendations.
Requirements
- At least one of the stated software-development and education combinations: 11 years of experience; a relevant bachelor’s degree and 7 years; a relevant master’s degree and 5 years; or a relevant doctorate and 3 years.
- At least 3 years of academic or professional experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or OCI.
- At least 5 years of system-level testing and automation experience and 4 years delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Java and strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed-systems fundamentals.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills, including using operational data to identify issues and guide improvements.
- Experience developing, testing, and integrating secure REST APIs and services, with knowledge of modern web application development and prototyping.
- Experience designing automation, maintaining scripts such as Python or Perl, and developing software test plans and quality-assurance practices.
- Experience with code reviews, source control, software-effort estimation, and agile software delivery practices.
- Ability to assess security vulnerabilities, apply security and compliance requirements, and provide technical guidance across teams.
- Preferred experience building multi-tenant virtualized infrastructure and understanding databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies.
