Base Salary
$165k - $195k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own architecture, hosting and infrastructure strategy, integrations, and long-term platform direction across the web ecosystem.
- Remain hands-on by building, reviewing, and debugging software alongside engineers.
- Own deployment and release processes, CI/CD, automation, dependency updates, and production environment configuration.
- Manage plugins, dependencies, security remediation, patching cadence, and engineering and QA standards.
- Lead technical discovery and estimation while communicating dependencies, risks, sequencing, and technical trade-offs to Product and stakeholders.
- Improve engineering work triage, allocation, and sequencing across the workstream.
- Mentor and develop engineers, including senior individual contributors, through documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Develop and execute a 12- to 24-month strategy for consolidating or migrating appropriate WordPress and Drupal sites.
- Provide technical leadership across additional workstreams and technology stacks over time.
Requirements
- At least eight years of professional software engineering experience, including experience as a technical lead, staff engineer, or engineering lead for a team or portfolio.
- Experience remaining heavily hands-on while leading, with architecture and systems thinking across an ecosystem of applications.
- Demonstrated mentoring and engineer development experience, including with senior individual contributors.
- Supervisory experience directly managing engineers, setting performance expectations, and conducting performance reviews.
- Deep current WordPress experience with custom themes and plugins, Gutenberg, Advanced Custom Fields, WP-CLI, and multisite portfolios.
- Deep current Drupal experience with custom modules and themes, Drupal 10 or later, entity and configuration management, Views, Drush, Composer-based builds, and headless or decoupled Drupal using JSON:API or GraphQL with a JavaScript front end.
- Strong modern PHP, object-oriented design, Composer, and SQL skills, including query performance work.
- Front-end JavaScript experience with technologies such as Next.js and React, plus modern build tooling.
- Experience owning hosting, deployment pipelines, and environment configuration for production web platforms.
- Strong CI/CD and DevOps skills involving automated build, test, and deployment pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerization, environment and secrets management, and production monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Experience and general knowledge of SSL certificates, DNS, and web protocols.
- Preferred experience with Upsun, AWS, Cloudflare, or comparable CDN platforms.
- Preferred experience consolidating, migrating, or reducing a site portfolio.
- Preferred WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility experience and experience working with marketing and campaign teams on tight timelines.
- Track record of using AI-enabled tools and practices to accelerate work.
- Ability to exercise technical judgment, explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, estimate reliably, surface risks early, and challenge requests respectfully.
