- Develop and execute manual, automated, unit, integration, and system-level tests for software and hardware.
- Translate system-level requirements into subsystem and component requirements and produce design reviews, control models, DFMEA reports, and related documentation.
- Work directly with motion hardware, sensors, actuators, motor controllers, prototypes, and other electro-mechanical components to solve development problems.
- Support production launches, design-transfer documentation, assembly and test instructions, service troubleshooting, and field-service escalations.
- Collaborate with embedded software, mechanical, electrical, systems, and test engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, potentially lead projects, and coordinate the work of engineers, technicians, or other contributors.
- Ensure safety, quality, reliability, and applicable quality-system processes are addressed in product design and development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field, with coursework or experience in software development for physical systems.
- At least four years of professional software development experience working directly with electro-mechanical, robotic, or motion-control systems.
- Experience taking software from functional prototype or laboratory state to reliable customer-ready operation, including robustness, maintainability, deployment, updates, monitoring, and field/debug diagnostics.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering principles and software interfaces with sensors, actuators, motor controllers, and electro-mechanical components.
- Proficiency designing and implementing object-oriented software in C++ and/or Python, including class design, interfaces, modular structure, debugging, and unit/integration testing.
- Experience with version control, code review, issue tracking, build and release workflows, and automated testing.
- Track record of on-time, high-quality production launches of software and associated electro-mechanical components.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialists.
- Preferred qualifications include an advanced technical degree, eight or more years of design and development experience in a regulated or safety-critical industry, and experience verifying hardware and software against requirements.
- Preferred experience includes robotic and automated systems, low-level firmware, device drivers, APIs, robot-controls middleware, digital motion controllers, Linux-based environments, RTOS, robotics virtualization, control theory, linear algebra, rigid transformations, coordinate frames, databases, reliability testing, and machine learning or reinforcement learning concepts.
