Base Salary
$172k - $215k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and tune threat detections across Google Security Operations.
- Lead sophisticated and high-severity incident-response investigations from triage through root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Build and maintain Tines-based security automation workflows for detection, triage, and response.
- Own SIEM and security-data pipeline health, including log-source coverage, parsing, normalization, and alert quality.
- Develop cross-functional relationships and drive adoption of security tooling and initiatives.
- Translate evolving threat intelligence into improved detection coverage and response playbooks.
- Use and verify AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex for detection engineering and automation.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in security operations, detection engineering, or incident response.
- Demonstrated ownership of incident response and detection work end to end.
- Advanced knowledge of security principles, tools, and detection and response practices.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python or SOAR, including experience building response workflows and connecting security tools through REST APIs.
- Experience with SIEM platforms and security-data pipelines, including log-source onboarding, parsing, and alert tuning.
- Hands-on experience extending and tuning EDR, identity, email security, and network security tooling.
- Ability to write technical specifications, identify project risks, and evaluate trade-offs between approaches.
- Ability to resolve ambiguous or high-pressure situations effectively while maintaining professionalism and integrity.
- Ability to coach, motivate, and empower less experienced engineers.
