Senior Software Engineer - Android
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and roll out robust, high-performance applications using Kotlin.
- Design and maintain POS payment integrations working closely with hardware SDKs and the core POS application.
- Optimize mobile payment flows for security, speed, reliability, and high availability.
- Lead technical discussions and architectural decisions concerning performance, security, and development best practices.
- Collaborate with backend, product, UX/UI, QA, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, security best practices, and financial industry standards.
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote maintainable software practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues involving user-device interactions.
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and other agile development activities.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and frameworks.
Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in Kotlin, Java, and/or JVM languages.
- Deep knowledge of multithreading and concurrency; coroutine experience is a plus.
- Experience working in a large Android project or codebase, including domain boundaries, modularity, reusability, and testability.
- Track record of successfully completing complex SDK integrations.
- Experience designing public APIs for ease of consumption.
- Expertise in observability, monitoring, and alerting for complex user-device interactions.
- Strong mentoring skills and the ability to guide developers on best practices.
- Openness and enthusiasm for AI tooling that improves R&D productivity.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
- Preferred experience with card payments, EMV, hardware or device integration, security, and key management.
