Responsibilities

  • Set strategy, roadmap, and architectural direction for Google Cloud backup and disaster recovery primitives.
  • Manage large, ambiguous distributed storage and metadata problems and build consensus across cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the evolution of PD Snapshots and Instant Snapshots for exabyte-scale growth, data routing, metadata isolation, and low-latency in-place backups.
  • Advocate for product excellence, system reliability, and ambitious global-scale milestones.
  • Align PD Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Product Management, peer teams, and executive leaders on design and integration decisions.
  • Mentor executive and junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or working with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Preferred: 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Deep proficiency in C++, including multi-threaded programming, concurrency control, and low-level system optimizations.
  • Extensive experience with cloud storage infrastructure, disaster recovery, data replication protocols, or block storage snapshot methodologies.
