Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, strategy, and multi-year technical roadmap for Uber’s fleet foundations across mobility, delivery, and autonomous use cases.
- Define unified fleet and earner abstractions and drive adoption across Earner, Identity, Fulfillment, Pricing, Marketplace, and Matching platforms.
- Own architectural coherence, backward compatibility, and migration safety for foundational fleet models serving live global production traffic.
- Lead the evolution of third-party fleet integration surfaces and partner onboarding toward self-serve configuration.
- Drive cross-team alignment, provide hands-on technical direction and design leadership, and mentor senior and staff engineers.
- Contribute to organization-wide and company-wide fleet and autonomous strategy while coordinating across sites, time zones, and partner organizations.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field plus 4 years of full-time software engineering experience, or 7 years of full-time software engineering experience.
- At least 4 years of specialized technical software engineering experience in areas such as C, C++, Java, Python, or Go, which may include education, coursework, research, training, or full-time work.
- Deep hands-on experience building and operating distributed backend systems at scale.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience modeling vehicles, fleets, operators, couriers, or other physical-world supply as first-class entities in a large-scale marketplace or logistics platform.
- Experience evolving foundational domain models under live production traffic or owning platform capabilities across multiple marketplaces or lines of business.
- Experience leading multi-year, cross-organizational platform programs and influencing technical direction beyond direct reporting lines.
- Experience designing and owning external API surfaces and partner-facing integration platforms for third-party operators.
- Preferred experience with autonomous vehicle, connected-vehicle, EV, delivery, logistics, last-mile fulfillment, pricing, fares, commission, billing, enterprise partnership, or regulated-counterparty ecosystems.
Benefits
- For Sunnyvale, California-based roles, the base salary range is USD $267,000–$297,000 per year.
- Eligible for Uber’s bonus program and may be offered equity and other compensation.
