Responsibilities
- Design and implement Developer Portal capabilities end to end, from API contracts and database schemas through frontend integration and deployment.
- Build and operate backend services, REST APIs, data models, application registration, authorization, and developer-facing capabilities.
- Own API versioning, backwards compatibility, safe schema migrations, and production operation of customer-integrated services.
- Develop secure authentication and authorization features involving OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, enterprise SSO, multi-tenant authorization, relationship-based access control, sessions, credentials, and identity-aware provisioning.
- Ship customer-facing portal features using Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
- Drive small-to-medium technical initiatives independently and coordinate with Product, Design, Architecture, Identity, Organizations, Authorization, and Platform Engineering teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production backend services; less experience may be considered for candidates with a PhD or Master's degree.
- Strong backend service and REST API development experience with Java and Spring Boot, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or a similar modern web framework.
- Deep experience with relational databases, complex SQL, and safe production schema migrations.
- Experience designing versioned, backwards-compatible REST API contracts and documenting them with OpenAPI or a similar specification.
- Working proficiency with TypeScript and React and the ability to ship customer-facing frontend features.
- Working familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts such as OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
- Experience independently driving technical initiatives from definition through production, including cross-team coordination.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred: experience building developer experience features, developer portals, API or authentication platforms, cloud platforms, payments platforms, or other self-service developer products.
- Preferred: experience with Java 21+, Spring Boot, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Next.js, micro-frontends, Webpack Module Federation, SAML 2.0, SCIM, SpiceDB, OpenFGA, Zanzibar-style architectures, OPA, Cedar, feature-flag migrations, OpenAPI tooling, docs-as-code, or SDK generation.
- Preferred: familiarity with identity verification, fraud prevention, KYC/AML, regulated identity systems, NIST 800-63 guidelines, Google Cloud Platform, OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Prometheus, Sentry, Playwright, Jest, or Cypress.
