Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and evolve the core architecture of Skydio Simulator.
- Develop physics and dynamics models for vehicle motion, environmental interactions, and dynamic agents.
- Build high-fidelity simulations of cameras, IMUs, and other onboard components, including timing, noise, and hardware behavior.
- Run and validate the full Skydio autonomy stack in simulation and improve consistency with real-world behavior.
- Develop simulator features for training scenarios, advanced testing modes, and customer and internal engineering workflows.
- Profile and optimize simulator performance while improving realism and accuracy.
- Develop core simulator components in C++ and Python near real-time constraints.
- Collaborate with autonomy, perception, and controls engineers and contribute to simulator documentation.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering experience with C++ and Python.
- Experience building complex systems where performance, determinism, or correctness matter.
- Comfort reasoning about time-synchronized systems, state machines, or real-time execution.
- Ability to work in a large, evolving codebase with multiple stakeholders.
- Interest in robotics, simulation, or physical systems; prior robotics experience is a plus but not required.
- Bonus experience with robotics, simulation, game engines, real-time systems, physics engines, sensor modeling, hardware abstraction layers, multithreaded systems, low-latency design, or software-physical system debugging.
Benefits
- Hourly compensation is $47/hr for undergraduate students, $53/hr for master's students, and $70/hr for PhD students.
- Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in benefit plans and access various incentives and stipends.
- The role is an internship for 2027 at Skydio headquarters; compensation may vary by location.
