Base Salary
$160k - $271k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define technical requirements and design trade-offs with electrical, FPGA, manufacturing, service, and clinical teams.
- Develop and maintain embedded Linux platform software, including initialization, diagnostics, communication middleware, system services, and multithreaded C/C++ applications.
- Integrate and debug bootloaders, kernels, device trees, drivers, processors, FPGA hardware, PCIe, DMA, and other high-throughput interfaces.
- Analyze performance, latency, CPU, memory, I/O, and networking issues and conduct root-cause analysis of system failures.
- Design for robustness, fault detection, graceful degradation, and serviceability.
- Participate in design verification, validation, manufacturing transfer, architecture discussions, design reviews, demonstrations, and clinical or field activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote strong code quality, debugging, and design practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of industry experience or master’s degree with 4+ years of industry experience in computer science, computer engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience developing and supporting production embedded systems.
- Strong modern C/C++ proficiency, including C++11 or newer, for embedded and cross-platform development.
- Experience developing and debugging embedded Linux systems and multithreaded applications.
- Hands-on experience with Linux kernel drivers, board-support packages, device trees, bootloader integration, and low-level hardware interfaces.
- Experience integrating embedded Linux with FPGA, PCIe, DMA, custom ASICs, or other high-throughput hardware paths.
- Proficiency with Python 3 and Bash for tooling, automation, and diagnostics.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, CAN, I2C, SPI, protobuf, embedded communication interfaces, and networked device integration.
- Understanding of embedded software architecture, modular design, inter-process communication, and system-level interfaces.
- Strong debugging skills across hardware, operating-system, middleware, and distributed-software layers.
- Experience with collaborative product-focused development, build automation, unit and integration testing, and the full product lifecycle.
- Preferred experience includes real-time or near-real-time systems, secure boot, authentication, encryption, key management, FDA-regulated or safety-critical systems, design controls, traceability, risk analysis, UDP, RTP, SRTP, SSL/TLS, GStreamer, Yocto/OpenEmbedded, PetaLinux, cross-compilation, and reproducible build systems.
