Responsibilities
- Define and evangelize technical vision for the assigned domain.
- Decompose complex problems into practical, operational solutions and ensure technical design and implementation quality.
- Provide expertise on system performance, scalability, and operability.
- Modernize monolithic systems into microservice architectures and event-driven platforms.
- Define long-term platform strategy, API standards, coding standards, and design standards with engineering and architecture leaders.
- Lead cross-divisional projects and cross-domain architectural reviews.
- Provide hands-on technical contributions while mentoring engineers and strengthening engineering and product expertise.
- Create technical communications, code samples, blog posts, and knowledge-sharing materials.
- Balance multiple projects and drive technological best practices and enhancements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing, and data architecture.
- Preferred master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- Preferred 10+ years of experience with software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, web technologies, distributed HPC and ML systems, cloud computing, and data architecture.
- Preferred 10+ years of professional coding experience with commonly used programming languages.
- Preferred 8+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- Preferred 10+ years of full software development lifecycle experience.
- Preferred 8+ years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- Preferred 10+ years of experience with networking protocols and third-party distributed-system integrations.
- Preferred 5+ years mentoring senior engineers and driving technical-team professional development.
- Preferred 2+ years leading cross-domain architectural reviews and establishing coding and design standards.
- Expertise in strategically applying GenAI and agentic solutions to systemic development challenges.

- The posted annual salary range varies by location: $244,700–$279,200 in Richmond, VA and $269,100–$307,200 in McLean, VA.
- The role may also include performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and long-term incentives.
