Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and own content APIs and retrieval components end to end.
- Create versioned API contracts, schemas, ownership metadata, and predictable interfaces for agent developers.
- Build and tune retrieval and search systems, including relevance and ranking improvements on Vespa.
- Define acceptance criteria, evaluation datasets, gold data, and CI gates for verified spec-driven development.
- Participate in on-call operations, incident response, root-cause analysis, post-mortems, and runbook improvement.
- Instrument services with structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and agent-tool invocation diagnostics.
- Define and monitor SLOs while improving deployment, testing, and local-development workflows.
- Provide technical direction, document architectural decisions, review high-risk changes, and mentor junior engineers.
- Collaborate with TR Labs research scientists, CoCounsel Engineering, product owners, and other technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Use AI-assisted development tools across code generation, review, testing, and debugging.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and testing production backend, API, or data-infrastructure systems.
- Mastery of Python and strong API design and testing fundamentals, including unit, integration, and evaluation testing.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and resilient service, queue, and datastore design.
- Proficiency with AWS cloud services, Datadog, and CI/CD practices including blue/green and canary deployments.
- Experience with operational ownership, on-call participation, architectural documentation, decision records, and post-mortems.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and responsibility for the resulting production code.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly through design documents and component documentation.
- Preferred: information-retrieval knowledge including precision/recall, hybrid search, and ranking.
- Preferred: experience building APIs or tools for agentic AI systems and protocols such as MCP.
- Preferred: legal technology, knowledge management, or other high-stakes information-domain experience.
- Preferred: experience with Vespa, OpenSearch, or Elasticsearch; AI-service integration; API gateways; agent and retrieval evaluation; Terraform; ECS; or Kubernetes.
- Preferred: experience with embedding APIs, re-ranking models, RAG-supported retrieval, Promptfoo, Langfuse, or LLM workflow tracing.
