Base Salary
$128k - $209k/yr
Responsibilities
- Apply autonomous system solutions to construction machines including excavators, wheel loaders, and articulated trucks.
- Lead and contribute to the design, architecture, implementation, testing, and release of autonomy and robotics systems.
- Lead requirements generation and system architectural tradeoff decisions.
- Provide technical leadership across functional testing, verification, validation, and certification.
- Integrate technologies to improve autonomy solution capability and robustness.
- Troubleshoot complex software, hardware, and application issues across development and production environments.
- Facilitate design reviews and communicate technical concepts, risks, readiness, and tradeoffs to engineers, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Manage engineering projects across time, cost, quality, and risk.
- Mentor engineers and improve technical quality through guidance and example.
- Lead hands-on engineering in laboratory and machine-based proving-ground environments for development, validation, and demonstrations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or commensurate industry experience.
- Extensive experience as a systems integration or design engineer supporting robotics, autonomous, or semi-autonomous systems engineering projects.
- Strong robotics experience and understanding of planning, perception, positioning, and controls.
- Strong professional experience designing and architecting major or multiple products.
- Experience troubleshooting software, hardware, or application problems using code, logs, and current systems.
- Preferred experience with LIDAR, GNSS, GPS, radar, and camera sensors.
- Preferred experience with field testing, HIL, and proving-ground support.
- Preferred experience with site autonomy platforms.
- Preferred knowledge of wheel loaders, excavators, or articulated trucks.
- Preferred experience in the construction or mining industries.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts, risks, and tradeoffs and influence decisions through technical expertise.

- Relocation is available.
- The position requires full-time onsite work five days per week at a designated Caterpillar facility; remote work is not available.
- The preferred initial location is the Peoria, Illinois area, with future relocation to Irving, Texas based on business needs.
- Travel is approximately 15% for candidates based in the Peoria area and approximately 75% for candidates based in the Dallas area.
