Base Salary
$109k - $150k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop sensored and sensorless controls for permanent magnet synchronous motors.
- Implement inverter pulse-width modulation, position and velocity estimation, current control, and efficiency optimization.
- Develop fault detection, isolation, and reconfiguration logic for safety-critical systems.
- Design closed-loop position control for redundant servo actuation systems with redundant sensors and multi-phase motors.
- Optimize motor controls using MATLAB Simulink and develop C/C++ wrappers and interfaces.
- Develop, simulate, implement, and test controls algorithms for inverter and motor systems.
- Oversee dynamometer testing and interpret data for controls development, validation, and improvement.
- Tune and calibrate complete systems on dynamometers, test stands, and aircraft.
- Perform unit, subsystem validation, integration, flight, processor-in-the-loop, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Decompose system-level requirements into software requirements.
- Develop system-level actuator models and integrate them with inverter and servo controls.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field.
- At least 2 years of related technical experience, including mechanical, electrical, computer, robotics, or mechatronics engineering.
- Experience with actuation systems and/or servo control in safety-critical applications.
- Experience developing embedded applications in C/C++ and using MATLAB Simulink model-based design for controls development.
- Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power analyzers for basic electronics debugging.
- Basic understanding of version-control technologies.
- Ability to work onsite regularly in San Carlos, California.
- Preferred: advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field.
- Preferred: technical experience with aerospace actuation and controls-system development.
- Preferred: processor-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop verification and debugging experience.
- Preferred: knowledge of feedback control, PID control, advanced control techniques, servo-system modeling, system identification, and simulation.
- Preferred: knowledge of electromechanical systems, real-time bare-metal firmware, and hard real-time interrupt-driven software.
