Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and ship scalable production software across GitHub services.
- Build and manage large-scale Elasticsearch clusters, including indexing, population, repair, reindexing, recovery, scaling, and availability.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, pairing, code reviews, architecture proposals, and technical discussions.
- Own system health and quality, participate in first-responder on-call rotations, and handle live incidents.
- Design and implement APIs connecting software components and relational data with search indexes.
- Create testing plans, define success metrics, incorporate customer feedback, and uphold security and compliance standards.
- Use debugging tools and telemetry to resolve issues and improve performance and maintainability.
Requirements
- 9+ years of software engineering or related technical experience, or an accepted associate, bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate, or equivalent-experience pathway.
- At least 1 year of technical leadership experience.
- At least 6 years of experience building, deploying, and maintaining Elasticsearch at scale.
- At least 6 years of experience using general-purpose programming languages such as Go, Ruby, or Rust.
- Preferred experience with scripting languages, React, MySQL, Cosmos DB, Elasticsearch, telemetry dashboards, cloud environments, CNCF concepts, Lucene-based search engines, search relevance and scoring, Terraform, Puppet, and Ansible.
