Responsibilities
- Convert legacy RPG II programs into maintainable COBOL applications on IBM z/OS.
- Analyze program logic, file layouts, and data flows to preserve legacy behavior.
- Develop and maintain JCL, batch job streams, and related mainframe utilities.
- Write and tune DB2 for z/OS SQL and work with VSAM and sequential datasets.
- Perform unit, regression, parallel-run, data validation, and reconciliation testing.
- Prepare code and data for rehosting on Google Cloud Platform with the Raincode compiler and runtime.
- Document converted programs, data dependencies, and technical decisions.
- Collaborate with client technical and migration teams in an Agile setting.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional COBOL development experience on IBM z/OS mainframes.
- Strong SQL and data skills, particularly DB2 for z/OS, embedded SQL, query tuning, and data modeling.
- Experience with JCL, TSO/ISPF, batch processing, VSAM, QSAM/sequential files, and GDGs.
- Familiarity with DFSORT/SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, and CICS.
- Experience with legacy modernization, code conversion, or mainframe migration projects.
- Experience with Raincode, Micro Focus/Rocket Enterprise Server, Google Cloud Platform, or other mainframe rehosting and emulation platforms is relevant.
- Experience with Git, Endevor, or ChangeMan for source control and change management.
- Ability to perform data validation, reconciliation, and parallel-run testing.
- B1-level or higher English proficiency for technical documentation and team discussions.
- RPG II experience is not required because engineers will be trained on it.
