Base Salary

$142k - $213k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Write, review, and ship production-quality backend and platform code alongside the engineering team.
  • Own the most complex, high-risk, and ambiguous engineering problems on the platform.
  • Set day-to-day technical direction and drive low-level design, including class and module structures, API contracts, data models, sequence flows, and error handling.
  • Conduct rigorous code reviews and act as the final technical quality gate for critical components.
  • Lead or technically manage backend engineers, provide guidance, mentor junior and mid-level developers, and contribute to hiring and interviews.
  • Drive sprint execution by decomposing epics, estimating work, managing technical risks, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Champion automated testing, CI/CD discipline, observability, operational readiness, and remediation of technical debt and production issues.
  • Partner with engineering leadership, architects, product, and business stakeholders on technical execution plans.

Requirements

  • 6–10 years of hands-on professional software development experience with demonstrated backend engineering depth.
  • Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, microservices, and REST or gRPC APIs.
  • Proven ability to lead by doing, code regularly, and solve complex technical problems in a hands-on capacity.
  • Strong code-review experience, including identifying correctness, security, performance, edge-case, and concurrency issues.
  • Expertise in low-level design and the ability to produce and critique detailed technical designs.
  • Experience leading or technically mentoring engineering teams; formal people-management experience is a plus.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms, design patterns, concurrency, database design, API design, and testing practices.
  • Experience in large-scale, regulated, or enterprise environments; financial services experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred experience includes blockchain, distributed ledger, or digital asset platforms; Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift; cloud-native architectures; CI/CD pipelines; Agile/Scrum delivery; and formal people management.
