Base Salary
$130k - $180k/yr
Responsibilities
- Extend Airwall onto new device classes and hardware targets.
- Own embedded software running on constrained targets, including OpenWRT and ARM-based platforms.
- Develop and maintain secure data-path functionality involving identity-based overlay networking, IPsec, ESP, IKE, tunnel encapsulation, NAT traversal, Layer 2 over Layer 3, and PKI-backed certificate identity.
- Modernize the Airwall technology stack to improve performance, observability, and maintainability.
- Diagnose difficult networking failures in live customer environments through packet-level analysis.
- Contribute to core codebases and improve code quality, testing, and performance.
- Mentor engineers and serve as a technical role model across the team.
- Communicate and collaborate with product and engineering teams and engage directly with customers operating protected networks.
Requirements
- 8+ years of shipping production networking software, including significant experience with embedded or kernel-adjacent systems.
- Deep expertise in C, C++, or Rust, with the ability to work across all three languages.
- Command of networking from Layer 2 through Layer 4 and the ability to analyze packet captures independently.
- Hands-on embedded Linux experience on resource-constrained hardware or experience with OpenWRT.
- Working knowledge of IPsec, ESP, IKE, encrypted transport, certificate-based identity, and PKI.
- Experience shipping software into environments where downtime has serious consequences.
- Clear communication and sound judgment when working across product and engineering teams.
- Preferred: experience with Host Identity Protocol (RFC 7401) or another identity-based networking overlay.
- Preferred: operational technology or industrial control systems experience, including BACnet or Modbus.
- Preferred: hardware bring-up, board support packages, firmware release engineering, or contributions to open source networking projects.
