Responsibilities
- Drive technical direction and architecture for ML/LLM systems across multiple Platform AI teams.
- Design secure, scalable, fault-tolerant AWS Serverless solutions with event-driven architecture, observability, and infrastructure as code.
- Evaluate and prototype LLM frameworks, model providers, and agentic tooling for build-versus-buy decisions.
- Serve as the architecture point of contact across the Platform AI organization and guide department-wide architecture discussions.
- Mentor Staff Software Engineers and Applied Scientists through code reviews and design partnership.
- Collaborate with Applied Scientists and Product teams to productize AI capabilities and translate AI strategy into execution roadmaps.
- Design, build, and scale OpenSearch, semantic search, and vector search systems supporting discovery and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Help teams navigate ambiguous technical problems through successful delivery.
Requirements
- 10–15+ years of professional experience developing and owning high-scale, secure cloud applications, including demonstrated Staff-level work across multiple teams.
- Strong proficiency in Python and data science libraries and frameworks including pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
- Experience with AWS infrastructure as code using CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, model evaluation, and RAG-based functionality.
- Hands-on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, semantic search, and vector embeddings.
- Experience taking AI-based solutions from research prototypes through production systems.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring senior- and staff-level engineers.
- Preferred bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related field.
