Base Salary
$264k - $380k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead evaluation and enablement of new AWS, Azure, and GCP instance types, including Graviton, AMD Turin, Azure ARM/Cobalt, and GCP Axion.
- Set performance strategy, architecture, measurement methodology, and technical roadmap.
- Build benchmarking, performance-validation, scorecard, dashboard, and modeling infrastructure for hardware qualification and rollout decisions.
- Analyze CPU microarchitecture, memory bandwidth, PMU counters, and I/O behavior to identify and resolve workload-specific bottlenecks.
- Develop price/performance models connecting technical metrics to pricing, capacity, cost-per-query, and hardware transition decisions.
- Lead cross-functional and external partnerships with Snowflake engineering and Finance teams, cloud providers, and silicon vendors.
- Mentor engineers, build benchmarking capability, and promote company-wide performance education.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in performance engineering, systems engineering, or infrastructure engineering.
- Track record of principal-level technical leadership and cross-functional, cross-company initiative leadership.
- Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure performance with at least one major cloud service provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Strong knowledge of CPU microarchitecture, memory bandwidth, I/O subsystems, PMU counters, and performance profiling.
- Experience building or operating large-scale benchmarking systems and converting benchmark results into pricing or rollout decisions.
- Ability to build quantitative models connecting performance metrics to business outcomes such as pricing multipliers and cost-per-query.
- Experience serving as a primary technical contact for cloud providers, hardware partners, or silicon vendors.
- Bias toward automation, including scorecards, dashboards, and validation pipelines.
- Preferred experience with data warehouse or distributed database performance, early-access hardware programs with cloud or silicon providers, or hardware-emulation systems.
