Responsibilities
- Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments across development, test, and production.
- Optimize database performance, resource utilization, scalability, and capacity for increasing transaction volumes.
- Design and maintain high-availability, backup, recovery, replication, standby, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Implement database security, access controls, authentication, authorization, auditing, and compliance measures.
- Monitor database health, investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and participate in 24x7 on-call support after onboarding.
- Develop automation for database administration using scripting and configuration management tools.
- Contribute to platform modernization, cloud transformation, database standardization, and DBaaS initiatives.
- Provide database architecture guidance to application, infrastructure, architecture, and business teams.
- Maintain technical documentation, standards, operational procedures, and service descriptions while mentoring team members.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience is required.
- 15 years of full-time education is required.
- Experience administering, designing, implementing, and optimizing databases in enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting business-critical applications and highly available database platforms.
- Experience with one or more of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Linux/Unix administration and Microsoft Windows Server.
- Experience with Ansible and scripting or programming in Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or Shell/Bash.
- Experience with AWS RDS, cloud-native database services, or DBaaS concepts.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery tools, including RMAN, pg_dump, and mysqldump; Commvault is preferred.
- Experience with database monitoring, alerting, incident management, service requests, and enterprise IT service management tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, organizational, collaboration, customer-service, and problem-solving skills.
