Responsibilities
- Define, document, and govern software architecture for assigned regulated medical device products and platforms.
- Produce and maintain software architecture documents, software design documents, interface specifications, and design rationale.
- Drive architectural decisions for real-time behavior, memory and power constraints, connectivity, and hardware-software integration.
- Lead design reviews, technical risk assessments, trade-off analyses, modernization, refactoring, and platform reuse.
- Own requirement-to-test traceability and support software safety classification, hazard analysis, FMEA, and risk-control design.
- Support CAPA, CAP, DCR, root-cause analysis, impact assessment, design remediation, and design-history-file completeness.
- Embed secure-by-design principles and provide architecture-level input to SBOM, SOUP/OTS assessment, vulnerability remediation, and secure SDLC adoption.
- Partner with Engineering Managers on feasibility, estimation, sequencing, resource planning, release planning, and sprint execution.
- Represent software architecture in cross-functional and regulatory forums and surface technical risks and dependencies.
- Mentor and coach engineers, lead knowledge transfer, and drive code quality, design standards, static analysis, and unit-verification rigor.
- Champion AI-assisted engineering with tools such as GitHub Copilot while maintaining quality and compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of embedded software development experience, including at least 5 years in an architect or lead-architect capacity.
- Deep expertise in C++ preferred, C, or Embedded C, with strong real-time and resource-constrained design knowledge.
- Experience with RTOS concepts, scheduling, concurrency, task frameworks, memory and power optimization, and microcontroller/SoC platforms.
- Experience with board bring-up, hardware-software integration, communication protocols, connectivity, and secure firmware updates.
- Knowledge of software architecture practices, modelling, design patterns, interface design, modularity, verification, static analysis, code coverage, test automation, and CI/CD.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity for embedded and connected devices, including threat modeling, cryptography fundamentals, secure boot, and signed updates.
- Experience architecting embedded products in a regulated domain; medical devices are strongly preferred, with aerospace, automotive safety, or industrial safety-critical experience also considered.
- Demonstrated ownership of product or platform architecture from concept through release and sustaining.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-software audiences.
- Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and align them on architecture decisions without formal authority.
Benefits
- Office-based work arrangement requiring in-person attendance at least 3 days per week.
