Responsibilities
- Architect and govern highly available, resilient, secure enterprise database platforms across AWS and GCP.
- Lead reliability, performance, scalability, lifecycle management, and modernization of Microsoft SQL Server platforms toward PostgreSQL and cloud-native database services.
- Develop automation for database provisioning, patching, backup validation, failover testing, routine maintenance, and environment standardization.
- Implement database release automation, schema versioning, observability, telemetry, logging, alerting, and performance analytics.
- Partner with application and platform engineering teams on database design, query optimization, schema evolution, deployment strategies, and cloud-native architectures.
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, post-mortems, recovery strategy improvements, and permanent corrective actions.
- Author engineering standards, reusable automation modules, technical documentation, and database technology roadmaps.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for database architecture and cloud migrations, mentor engineers, and influence enterprise technical strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of experience designing, supporting, and managing enterprise relational database platforms in production.
- Extensive experience with public cloud environments, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with incident response, root cause analysis, SRE initiatives, schema versioning, and release automation.
- Experience mentoring engineers, influencing technical standards, and leading legacy database migrations to cloud-native or open-source platforms.
- Expert-level Microsoft SQL Server administration, engine internals, high availability/disaster recovery, performance engineering, database design, and query optimization.
- Advanced scripting and programming experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or equivalent languages.
- Microsoft SQL Server certification or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience includes Kubernetes or containerized workloads, regulated industries, AWS or Google Cloud Professional certification, CKA or equivalent certification, Terraform Associate or equivalent certification, and ITIL Foundation or SRE-related certifications.
