Responsibilities
- Support large-scale MySQL and open-source database environments across production and development systems.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for critical production issues and provide 24/7 operational support.
- Design, develop, manage, and architect existing and new enterprise-scale database services.
- Drive automation to improve database availability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Operate clustered, highly available database services on Linux-based and containerized environments.
- Implement and maintain replication, clustering, disaster recovery, backup, and restore strategies.
- Perform observability, incident response, performance tuning, capacity planning, and operational automation.
- Evaluate, adopt, and deploy reliable, scalable, secure, production-ready technologies and services.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience as a database engineer, database reliability engineer, or database architect working with multiple database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
- Hands-on experience with at least one managed cloud database platform, such as AWS Aurora or Google Cloud SQL.
- Experience running clustered, highly available database services on Linux-based environments.
- Strong scripting experience with Shell, Python, Ruby, or similar languages.
- Experience with Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized environments.
- Hands-on experience supporting mission-critical production workloads on MySQL or other open-source databases.
- Experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and restore strategies.
- BS in Computer Science or a related field with 5+ years of experience, or MS in Computer Science with 3+ years of experience.
- Recognition as an authority or subject matter expert in database technologies and database operations.
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Working knowledge of GitHub, JIRA, and Confluence.
- Strong communication, presentation, whiteboarding, technical documentation, analytical, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with Ceph Storage, Gluster, Orchestrator for MySQL, Percona MHA, Percona Galera, Vitess, and Pure Storage.
