Responsibilities
- Investigate field-reported anomalies across autonomous vehicle subsystems and determine their true root causes.
- Reproduce failures using recorded sensor or mission data, live pipelines, and visualization tooling.
- Use metrics, dashboards, and centralized logs to reconstruct system state during failures.
- Implement and test fixes in Rust, modern C++, Python, or Go through the standard CI and versioned rollout process.
- Validate fixes in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment to real vehicles.
- Distinguish between software bugs, configuration problems, and deployment mismatches, and correct issues at the appropriate layer.
- Document root causes and fixes, help develop on-call and triage runbooks, and communicate required subsystem changes to owning teams.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience debugging code written by others under time pressure and with incomplete information.
- Proficiency sufficient to read and fix code in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, and Go.
- Experience with systems debugging, logs, metrics, offline reproduction from recorded data, and observability tooling.
- Familiarity with Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics and Loki/ELK-class logging systems.
- Linux and systems fluency; experience with declarative or immutable operating systems such as NixOS is a bonus.
- Clear technical writing and root-cause communication skills.
- Willingness to work close to hardware and sensors without requiring prior maritime or robotics experience.
- Willingness to travel 25% or more on average.
- Robotics middleware, sensor drivers, real-time data pipelines, simulation-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing, embedded or fleet software deployment, and field-support or on-call experience are preferred.
