Base Salary

$232k - $258k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the long-term technical strategy and architecture for Marketplace Segmentation.
  • Lead large, ambiguous initiatives across multiple engineering teams that support marketplace efficiency, growth, and profitability.
  • Architect scalable, resilient, and performant systems for Uber’s global, real-time transaction volume.
  • Identify and solve technical challenges in matching, pricing, and user experience.
  • Mentor senior and staff engineers and raise the team’s technical bar.
  • Represent the team in cross-functional forums and align technical decisions with Product, Data Science, and executive leadership.
  • Establish engineering standards for system design, coding, testing, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience building scalable, fault-tolerant products or platforms.
  • Proficiency in one or more of Go, C, C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expertise designing and building complex, mission-critical distributed systems at internet scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical vision, create technical roadmaps, and execute strategically important initiatives.
  • Strong communication, influence, collaboration, mentorship, and technical leadership skills.
  • Preferred: Master’s or PhD focused on distributed computing, system performance, or machine learning.
  • Preferred: knowledge of marketplace dynamics, economics, optimization algorithms, matching, pricing, or demand/supply forecasting.
  • Preferred: experience with large-scale machine learning infrastructure and real-time deployment.
  • Preferred: publications or presentations at top-tier conferences, open-source contributions, or community leadership.
