Responsibilities
- Define and co-own tribe engineering strategy and technical roadmaps with engineering and product leadership.
- Lead strategic initiatives from ideation through delivery, aligning scope, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
- Design target architectures, evolve core services, and drive migrations and deprecations for scalable and reliable platforms.
- Improve engineering productivity and developer experience through tooling, quality frameworks, instrumentation, evaluations, RFCs, and post-mortems.
- Mentor senior engineers, tech leads, and engineering managers while contributing to hiring and raising the technical bar.
- Own critical technical decisions, including build-versus-buy evaluations and vendor selection based on total cost of ownership.
- Stay hands-on with complex engineering challenges, proofs of concept, and architecture validation.
Requirements
- Strong background in software engineering, architecture, and designing or evolving large-scale systems.
- Ability to connect technical strategy, APIs, services, and data flows to business goals and user impact.
- Hands-on experience diving into code, building proofs of concept, and iterating with teams.
- Experience owning ambiguous problems through delivery, launch, and operational stability.
- Strong communication and influence skills, including aligning engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders without formal authority.
- Product-minded approach to technical trade-offs and business impact.
- Experience across feature development, system design, architecture evolution, migrations, and process improvements.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers, influencing technical leads, contributing to hiring, and improving engineering culture.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and pragmatic decision-making skills in evolving environments.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI beyond code generation, including setting quality gates and safety nets for engineering workflows.
